KP police raid JUI-F leader’s house

MANSEHRA: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police on Saturday raided the residence of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Mufti Kifayatullah in Mansehra to arrest him but after learning of his absence arrested his family members instead.

The raid comes after the provincial government registered a police case against the cleric for his diatribe against the army last week. Speaking at a political talk show last week, he said “[army] generals too should be held accountable for their theft”.

Following his statement, Minister for Interior Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed announced to lodge a case against the cleric.

Commenting on the development, the KP police said search and raids were underway in various neighbourhoods for his arrest.

On Friday, Ahmed, while addressing a news conference in Peshawar, said that the federal government had forwarded a case against Kafayatullah to the KP government, adding that no one would be allowed to forward malicious claims against the armed forces of the country.

He said the government had also taken notice of nefarious activities of armed wings of the political parties, including JUI-F’s Ansarul Islam, and action will be taken against them.
