Had thought party named after current leader would be democratic, says Miftah

ISLAMABAD: Former finance minister Miftah Ismail has expressed disdain at the lack of democratic values in the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

“We thought this party would be above personality worship and would be a democratic meritocracy,” he said, while speaking to reporters.

“Alas, it is just based around one individual and other individuals that are in good standing with that individual.”

“This is exactly why Shahid (Khaqan Abbasi) Bhai has also left the party,” he said. “He had also thought the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) wouldn’t be running as per the diktat of one person.”

His views were echoed by political analysts.

“The time is right for a new League,” said Mazhar Abbas. “The Pakistan Muslim League [Nawaz (Shahid)].”
