Pay Super Tax before you pass Go, SC tells all players

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday told all players that they should deposit the Super Tax before they would be allowed to pass Go.

A three-member bench issued the order reiterating that the game could not continue if all players did not immediately pay the due Super Tax.

“Before the next player rolls their dice, all players are required to deposit the Super Tax,” the order noted. “Otherwise we would have no choice but to push the board down the table.”

The apex court order came at a time when the seemingly never-ending game is at a critical juncture, with the Supreme Court bench reminding that for the setup to continue there needs to be an understanding and appreciation of the rules.

“If all properties are taken and the bank has no money, everyone is going to lose,” the SC order emphasised.

“And the taxes can no longer be put on Free Parking so as to go back to the players.”

The Supreme Court in its order further confirmed that new Chance and Community Chest cards are being issued keeping in mind the situation of the game.

“The Get Out of Jail Free card has to go. We’ll also have to add more taxes and better distribute the resources beyond the players,” the bench noted.

“Otherwise, those paying up will remain the ones who are not even on the board.”
