In an explosive new leaked video, a Lahori man is seen selling votes for merely Rs 700,000,000 worth of biryani plates and qeema naans.
“Yes, I have seen the footage,” said Dr Saima Hassan, professor of political science at Government College, Lahore. “Yes, there is no denying that this is a sad aspect of politics in the country and, perhaps, in the rest of the developing world.”
“Let us not be quick to be judgmental about such things,” she said. “Rampant poverty can create certain different frames of reference. This is not to say that the working class and the abjectly poor have no political morality, not at all. It is just that all socio-economic indicators should be taken into account.”
“I can sit here in my comfortable office on a government degree college Associate Professor’s salary, here in this comfortable office which I share with only one other faculty member,” she said. “But the poor man shown in the video might be living from meal to meal in a cramped, 300 kanal house.”
