Fazl picks Senate chairs in JUI-F Zoom call as both govt, Opp choose Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam candidate

ISLAMABAD – Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Fazlur Rehman on Tuesday handpicked the Senate chairman and vice chairman in a party Zoom call, after both the government and the opposition decided to nominate JUI-F candidates for the Senate chair positions, The Dependent has reliably learnt.

According to sources, after the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) government offered the JUI-F’s Abdul Ghafoor Haideri the post of Senate deputy chairman, the opposition alliance Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), of which the JUI-F is a part, and Fazlur Rehman, the chief also decided to nominate a JUI-F member as the deputy chair.

Sources confirm that the five JUI-F senators, Abdul Ghafoor Haidari, Ataur Rehman, Kamran Murtaza, Faiz Muhammad and Muhammad Talha Mehmood have all been nominated for the posts of Senate chairman and vice chairman by the PTI and PDM.

While which of them was nominated by which, out of the government and opposition, is unknown and irrelevant, party insiders confirm that there are five nominations for four slots

“A tag-team is also participating in the royal rumble, which is being refereed by Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Zoom,” a JUI-F member who attended Tuesday’s conference call informed The Dependent.

Sources privy to the call further confirm that Fazlur Rehman began the conference with the initial recitation.

“Can you hear me?” he said according to norm, sources confirm, followed by the customary “can you see me. How does this thing work?”

Fazlur Rehman is expected to announce the Senate chairperson and vice chairperson in the next few days.
