Cotton yield has exceeded its estimated target for the first time in eight years with a production of 10.6 million bales.

This was mainly due to Kisan Package, launched by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, which benefited the farmers in the country.

The government had estimated cotton yield to be 10.5m bales, however, the total yield of cotton this season has exceeded the target.

In this way, the cotton yield has been 0.1m more than expected, a private news channel reported.

Cotton Ginners Forum Chairman Ihsanul Haq said about 9.5m bales of cotton were bought by the textile mill owners while 0.2m cotton bales have been purchased by the exporters.

It must be noted that over 4m cotton bales will have to be imported this year because of higher national consumption out of which approximately 2m bales so far have been imported.
