FBR revises Benami Transaction Rules 2018

ISLAMABAD: On the directives of Cabinet Committee on Disposal of Legislative Cases (CCLC), the Federal Board of Revenue revised the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Rules 2018.

These revisions have been carried out to safeguard powers vested in hands of Prime Minister/cabinet cannot be assigned to any minister, reported an English daily.

A progress report in this regard has been tabled before Senate Standing Committee on Finance on Benami Transaction Rules 2018, as approved by the cabinet.

The tax regulator said summary of this had been sent to the cabinet regarding go-ahead of enforcement of various provisions of Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Act had been moved with the approval of finance minister.

This summary has now been forwarded to Cabinet Committee for Disposal of Legislative Cases (CCLC) with some revisions to rules. FBR while giving progress report to parliamentary panel informed summary had been moved with go-ahead of finance minister to federal cabinet seeking approval for implementation of various provisions of Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Act 2017.

Eventually the summary was referred to CCLC which took up the matter during its meeting held on November 2nd, 2017. CLCC observed powers of the federal government to be exercised by cabinet including the PM couldn’t be delegated to any minister.
