Demand for Mangoes increases as Summers arrive

ISLAMABAD: The summer season is in full flow and sale of Mangoes is in full swing as the vendors selling the fruit are witnessing a good surge in the demand across the country, including the federal capital.

Pakistan is an important player in mango farming in the world as the soil and climatic conditions here are highly suitable for mango growth. According to traders, the wholesale fruit market is brimming with mango lovers, exporters and traders on a daily basis, as truckloads of the fruit have started reaching market early in the morning.

Chaunsa mango of Pakistan is one of the worlds’ top available varieties. It is grown in different parts of the world, but is said to be originally from Rahim Yar Khan and Multan regions in Punjab, said a fruit vendor in G-7 Sunday Bazaar, in Islamabad.

A customer purchasing Mangoes said that mango is her favorite fruit during summers as Pakistani mangoes have got more than four hundred varieties and are taken to be among the best of the world.

Tahir Zia, a vendor at G-6 market said, Pakistani mangoes are loved both locally and internationally for their taste and quality. Another shopper said, “Besides their sweet, delicious, and irresistible taste, mangoes also have many advantages and health benefits.”

The love affair between the people of Pakistan and mangoes is immense and it doesn’t look like it will end any time soon.

A physician, Dr Khurram Javed said, “Mangoes, as all of us know, have no comparison with other fruits in its tempting taste which is why it is called the ‘King of Fruits’. At the same time, research proves that eating mangoes helps in mood behavior and helps maintaining a happy mood.” It not only strengthen one’s will power but also prevents from heart diseases, he added.

Mangoes contain fiber, which can help to fight against cancer, he said, adding, “On an average, one mango contains 1-gram protein, 28 grams carbohydrates, 3 grams Fiber, Sodium and Vitamin E.”
