No increase in salaries, pensions in federal budget

LAHORE: The federal cabinet on Friday, while approving the budget for the upcoming fiscal year decided not to increase salaries and pension for government employees.

The move means that salaries and pensions for the federal governments employees will remain at the same level for the upcoming fiscal year.

The decision comes at a time when the country’s economy faces the negative effects of the spread of Covid-19 and next year’s tax collection targets for the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) have been slashed. 

Earlier on June 9, the Pakistan government and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had reached a consensus on not putting a freeze on the increase in salaries and pensions of government employees in a bid to protect government employees from the effects of inflation.

    • Good decision.. non productive Public sector employees should bear the consequences of lockdowns and covid crisis.. while private sector hardworking enployees gettng salary cut nd job lessness.. public sector should bear some damage..
      Infact in most countries public servants salaries has bn reduced…

  13. Strange! The ministers and Beaurcracy have already got the increase of 100 to 300%. The poor low paid employees are at the receiving end.

They increased their own salaries through notification, many institutions who deal with the politicians received 100-200 % salary increase in the name of many allowances, but nothing is given to the ordinary government employee, aam alfaz mein jis se in ko darr nahe hai uski tankah bhi nahe barhy gi. Sary bureaucrats ko approximately 200 % salaries increase ki gayi hain in recent past. Loog at GDP growth, lowest in many decades, 1 %.

  18. Imran Khan has spoiled people hopes, most unpopular budget, most unpopular decision of not increasing pays and pensions. 10% increase would have been enough. But not increasing is injustice keeping in view inflation.

The government of IK run by those having conflict of interests, corrupts, incompetents, frauds is playing fraud with people of Pakistan by victimising them in every way and massively benefitting so called business groups/CC&I consisting of hoarders, black markets, profiteers, money launderers by giving all concessions at tax payers costs like Subsidies, rebates, tax refunds, tax holidays, preferential treatment, liberal loans from banks with drastically reduced interest rates costing deposit holders to massively reduced interest payments on their savings in banks, waivers and restructuring of loans, write offs. This is besides drastic windfalls by constant devaluation of Pak rupee making average Pakistani to lose purchasing power of their holdings besides massively reducing their interests incomes on their deposits in bank by reducing interests rates instead of enhancing to encourage savings being back of economy by giving incentives and stabilizing Pak rupee from constant practice of devaluation and main sufferers.

    • 2.8m useless public sector employess should b reduced.. our economy has bn bank crupt since 7th nfc where most funds goes to province which just bng used to spent mostly on politicaly hired employees.. hvng no productivity..

      Atleast 2tr of total prov and fed budget is bng wasted on these usless ppl..

    • It is a revegue from gov’t employees. In my opinion it will.have harsh effects even consequences upon honest workers of gov’t employees.

  29. I think few of decision made by the PM and his cabinet/advisors are most foolish decisions.
    They know that due to pandemic situation of Covid-19 businesses and industries are kept closed and revenue target will effect badly.

    In this situation govt can overcome the targets, any how, by not decreasing petroleum prices too much.

    Decreasing of petroleum prices do not provide any relief to the lower and middle class of the country because prices of none of the food items, like oil, ghee, vegitables, fruit, flour and daals, came down. This also provide relief to the higher class, who uses luxury vehicles and incurred thousands of rupees on purchase of petrol/diesel or to the transporters.

    Mills/factories and business men increase the prices as and when they want.

    But the only class, i.e govt employees specially staff cadre, who fully depends on salaries and hoping for any relief from budget every year. But none of the govt think about this class and their economic position coming poorer and poorer day by day.

  36. Very poor decision by PTI. IK has become extremely helpless. I feel sorry for IK.
    Those who are rating this as good decision should go and check G-20 including USA, UK, Europe etc.
    First govt may bring salary at par with that countries then even 50% cut is acceptable. So please look at reality and don’t compare Pakistan with USA and UK etc.

    Employees got 10-15 % increase in last 3 years and inflation increased to 300%.

    All other sectors have increased rates by their own but employees have no option. IK should go to hell; regret to vote and support for him.
