WB doubles assistance for Ehsaas Programme, PM told

Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed the officials concerned to prepare a comprehensive strategy to further expand the scope of Ehsaas Programme.

The prime minister said this was talking to his Special Assistant on Poverty Alleviation Sania Nishtar in Islamabad on Monday. Country Director World Bank Najy Benhassine was also present on the occasion.

The PM was informed that the World Bank has doubled its assistance for Ehsaas Programme which will help extend social protection to more deserving people.

The World Bank country director declared the Ehsaas Programme a flagship programme of social protection and a role model for other countries.

Najy Benhassine also appreciated the steps taken by the prime minister for environmental protection. He said the PM’s announcement to shift to environment friendly renewable energy resources to produce electricity is a highly responsible initiative to save the region from the harmful effects of climate change.

Najy Benhassine Country Director World Bank Pakistan suggest to please consider development of Foot Path, Padestrian walk ways, Bicycle Track, Padestrian Bridge, Road Markings to protect padestrians, cyclists etc. Karachi foot path en-croached should only be for padestrians. All road should have markings of Bicycle rack and no other mechanised transport should be operated. The roads, foot paths should be observed by drone cameras and should be enforced. Volvo buses be locally assembled in Karachi in the CPEC for domestic market, and export to China from CPEC under the bilateral treaty between Pakistan China. Bicycle should be exempted tax free. Ehsaas program should be implemented in Karachi at the earliest with health card for Seniors be the first. Wheel Chair should also be imported. Unless our VIP’S ride a bicycle, travel in the bus, walk on foot path, Pakistan will not progress. Best wishes.
