PCB asks Cricket Australia to give one month hotel rent as security deposit ahead of upcoming tour

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has asked Cricket Australia to submit a security deposit amounting to one month hotel rent for its cricket squad and staff ahead of the upcoming tour to the country, The Dependent has reliably learnt.

The development comes after an Australian cricketer, in the country for the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL), damaged a chandelier of the Lahore hotel that he was staying at, before departing to Australia over a fabricated payment dispute.

“We have written to Cricket Australia that in order to ensure that the team’s tour to Pakistan, the first in 24 years goes smoothly, we have to collectively ensure security at all levels. We are managing the physical security of all players, and now want Cricket Australia to ascertain the financial security of the Pakistan Cricket Board and everyone involved with ensuring that the upcoming tour goes smoothly,” a senior member of the PCB’s accounts department told The Dependent.

The Dependent has further learnt that Cricket Australia has also been informed that the behaviour of their players would be constantly monitored throughout the tour.

“The Australians have a bit of a reputation about being aggressive, but we don’t want them to be sledging the staff at our hotels or airports,” another PCB official said while talking to The Dependent.

“We’ve told Cricket Australia that you’ve been a bit of a problem child in world cricket, and there’s only so much we can do before you realise that it’s up to you to address your reputation.”
