JHANG – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice-President Maryam Nawaz said on Tuesday that her progressive party will ensure the separation of religion from politics with the help of secular groups such as Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi.
The PML-N leader was leading rallies in Jhang’s Gojra Morr and Chiniot Morr on Tuesday as a part of her party’s campaign for PP-125 and PP-127 by-polls.
In her address at Gojra Morr, Maryam said the PML-N had formed a government in the province with the help of Pakistan Rah-e-Haq Party not merely because of political necessities but also because of ideological collaboration.
“The PML-N along with the Pakistan Rah-e-Haq Party, or the Ahl-e-Sunnat Wal Jamaat, or the Sipah-e-Sahaba, or the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi – howsoever you might want to address our noble, pluralistic allies – will make religion a private matter,” Maryam Nawaz said standing alongside Pakistan Rah-e-Haq Party’s Moavia Azam Tariq.
“If the people want separation of religion from politics, then they should vote for PML-N. The party’s competition is not with Imran Khan but with forces against secularism in the country,” Maryam said while making a case for the people of Jhang to vote for her party in the July 17 by-polls.
Calling herself a ‘militant secularist’, she asked the people to make a promise to her that they will throw out those against a secular Punjab. “It is only truly secularist groups like the PML-N and Sipah Sahaba that can ensure progress of Punjab and Pakistan,” she maintained.
Echoing Maryam’s words Moavia Azam Tariq said he will continue the dream of his father Azam Tariq to truly make religion a private matter.
“It was the private matter of my father to separate religion and politics by increasing religion and decreasing politics,” he said.
“And the private matter of my father will continue to be the private matter of Jhang, Punjab, and Pakistan for as long as I am alive.”
