Commentators on Pakistani social and mainstream media have collectively bemoaned the fact that everyone has suddenly become an expert on Russia and Ukraine, without having the relevant knowledge that they themselves had.
“100 analysts per second – the rate at which Pakistani twitter is currently producing foreign and security experts on Russia,” said Hussain Nadim, who runs the IPRI think tank in Islamabad, while tweeting out a feverish spree of tweets on the situation brewing between Russia and the Ukraine.
“Ugh, I hate these bandwagoners. I mean stop pretending you didn’t just get that factoid from. Wikipedia,” said corporate banker Fatima Hassan, with the Wikipedia page on “Russo-Ukrainian War” two tabs from the twitter tab on her Chrome browser.
“Why can’t these Late Lateefs let us with more knowledge about an issue take the microphone,” said Lateef Butt, who has cycled through the criminal justice system, the pros and cons of capital punishment, the international oil markets, the PECA ordinance, the numbers required for a no-confidence motion against the PM and the day-to-day developments in the pregnancy of international pop superstar Rihanna, this year.
