Captain declares innings after vowing to play till last ball

CRICKET STADIUM – In a unique move for a limited-overs contest, the captain of the batting team decided to declare the innings instead of trying to bat out the full quota of allotted overs.

The decision was taken when the captain and the last man were at the crease, with the final wicket on the line.

“I would rather declare my innings than be bowled out by these crooked opponents,” said the captain after declaring the innings prematurely.

“I don’t care about my own runs. I was still not out. But I could not have let them take the final wicket. That would have harmed the sport. More importantly that would have allowed these crooks to come and bat,” he added.

The captain maintained that preventing the opponents from ever taking to the field again is more important than any personal or team goals.

“It is all about them. I don’t care about my stats. I just want to make sure they never take to the field again,” he said.

The captain confirmed that he will now ensure that even after declaring the innings, it is he that comes in to bat again.

“I will become the first captain to announce the follow-on for my own team after declaring the innings.”
