Bollywood, Hollywood urged to watch Pakistani movies for accurate depiction of Muslims

LAHORE – World filmmakers have been asked to do some research on Muslims before making their movies.

After recent debate over Bollywood’s stereotypical portrayal of Pakistani Muslims and general critique over Hollywood’s depiction of Muslims, Pakistani stars have come forward and insisted that their films be watched if they want authenticity and accuracy.

“I mean come on, yaar with all the money you have, hire some good researchers to do homework on us. Or allow me to help: please watch most Pakistani film’s portrayal of Muslims and then showcase us accordingly,” said actor Adnan Siddiqui.

Actor Sanam Saeed said global depictions of Muslims are “far from reality” underlining how Pakistani entertainment industry has played its part in addressing misconceptions about the community.

“Pick any Pakistani movie and highlight the keyword Muslim, and then listen to the narrative surrounding what a Muslim should be, should do and should defeat. That is the true Muslim,” she said.
Superstar Shaan Shahid has said the world has especially twisted the beliefs of Muslims to target them.

“Our movies are full of jihaad against kufaar and how Muslims need to conquer the infidels and yet we are always misrepresented through the Islamophobic lens,” he said.

“To remove any confusion please watch my film Musalmaan on YouTube.”
