LAHORE – Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Hamza Shehbaz bagged the coveted Grammy award on Wednesday, at an event hosted by opposition lawmakers, led by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) at a local hotel.
The award was announced on stage by PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz who said that Hamza Shehbaz had won the Grammy ‘in multiple categories’.
“And the Grammy award winner for the Record Of The Year is… none other than Hamza Shehbaz,” announced Maryam amid rapturous applause from the aficionados constituted of the Punjab Assembly opposition lawmakers.
According to the final winners list revealed by the Opposition session, Hamza Shehbaz also won Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year, Best Metal Performance, Best Tropical Latin Album, Best Engineered Album-Classical, among a total of record 86 awards won by Punjab’s Opposition Leader.
Music connoisseurs present at the ceremony especially lauded Hamza Shehbaz for becoming the first artist in Grammy’s history to win all instrumental awards, including Best Jazz Instrumental Album, despite using only vocals.
After Hamza was given his Grammy awards the session witnessed loud chants, including “Grammy winner, Hamza Shehbaz!”.
While Hamza Shehbaz has been lauded as a musical sensation and the future of Punjab’s entertainment industry by the opposition,
his triumph remains uncertain.
The official status of the Grammy award ceremony and Hamza’s subsequent victory was unclear as the session was held outside the jurisdiction, and knowledge, of The Recording Academy in the US. Furthermore, no notifications regarding the event or Hamza’s victory were issued on grammy.com.
Meanwhile, Hamza Shehbaz, while talking to journalists after bagging his multiple Grammy win, said it was unfortunate that the award ceremony could not take place in the Punjab Assembly, as he slammed Speaker Pervaiz Elahi for barring MPAs and media personnel from organising the event.
“These people are playing with the Constitution, because they don’t know how to play any other instrument,” Hamza told the media.
