Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi represents Uyghur Muslims at OIC meeting

ISLAMABAD – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Beijing is attending the 48th meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers to promote unity and cooperation with the Muslim world, which cannot be ensured without speaking up for the Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang.

Talking to the media, Yi said China wants to developing a partnership with the Muslim world, and in that regard the plight of Uyghur Muslims should be a major cause of concern for the OIC.

“An organisation of Islamic cooperation needs to highlight the persecution of the only Muslim group anywhere in the world that is imprisoned in internment camps,” Yi said.

“That is why I am attending the OIC, to ensure that the Uyghur Muslims are represented and have a voice at the OIC, which I have personally observed has never been the case in any of the meetings.

The Chinese foreign minister further told the media that the OIC CFM’s theme of ‘Building Partnerships for Unity, Justice, and Development’ had great significance in the case of Uyghur Muslims and was the main reason of Chinese participation.

“None of these words is associated with Uyghurs by any Muslim country,” Yi maintained. “And Beijing will now attend all OIC meetings to ensure that this grave reality in changed.”
