Govt set to survive after children of over 172 NA members confirm they want to get married

ISLAMABAD – The fate of the upcoming no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Imran Khan is set to be determined by the number of members of the National Assembly whose children intend to get married.

After talking to the offspring of both the opposition and government leaders, The Dependent can confirm that a tilt has been witnessed in the political power play, with the government set to survive based on the count of children of the ruling Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) members and allies in the lower house who have expressed a desire to get married.

According to the stats assembled by The Dependent over the past 48 hours, children of at least 172 members of National Assembly have refused to allow any compromise on them getting married, which is a number high enough to ensure that the PTI government survives.

“I will not let my mom jeopardise my chances of getting married at any cost,” said the only child of a member of PTI, who was on the verge of joining the opposition before getting the ultimatum.

“I was planning on getting engaged next month. Dad will do as I say,” said another offspring of a National Assembly member who has actually convinced their father to leave the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and join the PTI.

While the numbers are going back in the PTI’s favour, sources within the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) led opposition alliance have confirmed that they’re currently negotiating with the children of parliamentarians.

“The opposition is set to announce a campaign against arranged marriages as well. No more selected marriages – political or personal,” said a notable leader of the opposition alliance while talking to The Dependent.
