Matthew Hayden recites ‘Lab Pe Aati Hai Dua’ in post-match celebrations

SYDNEY – Pakistan cricket team mentor Matthew Hayden recited ‘Lab Pe Aati Hai Dua’ to begin the post-match celebrations after Pakistan’s seven-wicket win over New Zealand in the first semifinal of the ongoing World T20 in Australia on Wednesday.

During his pep talk ahead of Sunday’s final, after the semifinal win coincided with Iqbal Day, Hayden told the players to keep Iqbal’s message in mind and motivate themselves for the big contest through his poetry.

“I am not going to single you out Shaheen [Afridi] because that would be way too easy,” Hayden said in his talk.

Talking to The Dependent after his inspirational speech to the players, Hayden said there was no better way to pull off cricket wins than doing so with inspiration from Iqbal.

“This was our jawaab-e-shikwa to everyone’s shikwa,” the Pakistan cricket team mentor said while talking to this scribe.

When asked how he accurately predicted skipper Babar Azam’s performance during his press conference before the semifinal Hayden said: “Dil se jo baat nikalti hai asar rakhti hai. Par nahi taaqat-e-parwaaz magar rakhti hai.”

When asked how he motivated himself and the team, when they were virtually out of the World Cup, the mentor of the national cricket team said that he urged the team to collectively believe in their strengths, eye progress, and will themselves forward.

“Koi andaaza kar sakta hai uss ke zor-e-baazu ka. Nigah-e-mard-e-momin se badal jaati hain taqdeerain,” he insisted.

Hayden insisted there was absolutely no chance of the team feeling complacent and will be fully focused for the final. “Sitaron se aagay jahan aur bhi hain. Abhi ishq ke imtehaan aur bhi hain.”
