‘You cannot scare someone who’s already afraid of you,’ defiant Sanaullah tells TTP

ISLAMABAD – In yet another demonstration of resolve on terrorism, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on Thursday told the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) that they cannot scare the state since the state is already scared of them.

Talking about the rise in terror incidents and the TTP’s issuance of threat of more attacks, Sanaullah said the government and the nation were defiant against the possibility of being afraid of the Taliban.

“We are already afraid of you. You cannot scare someone who is already scared,” Sanaullah said in a message to the Taliban.

“So, it is not worrying […] Don’t think that this is going out of control or that some group will become out of reach. Because all of that has already happened,” he said while addressing a press conference in Islamabad.

At the same time, the minister raised alarm over people being recently scared of the TTP, especially after the group claimed responsibility for the latest attack. Sanaullah reiterated that there are miscreants in all societies who diverge from the rulebook.

“TTP has been carrying out attacks over the past couple of decades. Have you been living under a rock?” the interior minister asked the newly scared people who are, by expressing concern, implying that they weren’t previously scared.

“But under our government, the nation will overcome the differences created by the previous regimes and will bring everyone together to be united in being terrified of the Taliban.”
