LAHORE – Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said he and his family will not betray Imran Khan “until it is really worth it”.
Talking to media persons after visiting a returning officer in connection with scrutiny of his nomination papers to contest a by-election, the former foreign minister said he is absolutely loyal to the PTI chief, until the day it is not in his personal interests to be so.
“There’s a taboo over changing loyalty in society. Therefore, it has to be worth one’s while to be disloyal,” Qureshi told the media.
“Hence, it does not make any sense to betray Imran Khan until doing so is really worth it and outweighs the taboo,” he added.
Qureshi told journalists that he and his family are ready for court arrests during the ‘Jail Bharo’ (court arrest) movement, since it is currently beneficial for them.
“I mean, we don’t have any better offers than what the PTI is offering and the party remains, currently, the best bet for the political growth of my family and I,” he said.
“On that part, going to jail is actually beneficial in the short-term. Very short-term, if I might add. So purely on the basis of self-interest, I don’t mind going to jail and see no reason to abandon Imran Khan, as things stand,” Qureshi added.
“But, of course, all of that could change pretty quickly.”
